This slightly used PDS® Carl Hester Grande Dressage Saddle is designed to maximize horse and rider performance. Cosmetic blemishes will not affect its performance.
The cornerstone of the PDS Carl Hester Collection, the Grande deep-seated dressage saddle is crafted of premium quality double-stitched calf leather. Anatomically designed knee blocks help support the rider and encourage the lengthening of the thigh. This saddle is available in two types of AMS® panels, Standard and Alto, with specific designs to best suit your horse’s build. It’s made on an unbreakable carbon fiber polymer tree and equipped with the X-Change® System. AMS panels distribute load evenly and reduce pressure on a horse’s back. They’re shaped to avoid restriction of the horse’s shoulders and provide a wide weight bearing surface. High-quality synthetic wool flocking, which can be altered as needed for optimal fit, rests inside a special, breathable layer of neoprene that protects against lumps and hot spots. The saddle design also eliminates point straps in the girthing system to allow freedom of movement through the horse’s shoulders.
Standard (Regular) panels are suited for horses with medium withers; most dressage horses have this build. Alto Panels are intended for horses with higher withers and a greater wither-to-back differential. With Alto panels, the panel is slightly deeper at the front to offer extra support and clearance over the withers and spine. It also has a slightly deeper rear gusset to ensure that after allowing for the height at the front of the horse, the saddle is still able to sit level.
The carbon fiber polymer tree is lightweight, flexible and incredibly strong. It’s designed for your horse’s comfort and performance with its anatomical design, while providing incredible contact between horse and rider. The X-Change System takes the worry out of saddle fitting as your horse changes shape from season to season and even throughout the season. The range of gullet plates provided in the X-Change System let you make adjustments to the saddle width conveniently and easily. A medium wide gullet is included with the saddle; other gullet plate sizes are available separately.

If something doesn’t fit you or your horse, return your original purchase within 30 days, and we’ll make it right with a refund, exchange, or replacement.
For manufacturer's defects, we'll extend the manufacturer's warranty to a maximum of 24 months, regardless of their individual policies. Manufacturer warranties longer than 24 months will be honored and supported by us as well up to the length of those warranties.
Exceptions: Safety items such as helmets and protective vests may only be returned within 30 days, with their original tags intact. Saddles and riding boots may be returned within 90 days, but are subject to a prorated refund based on usage. Used saddles may be returned for 30 days only. For everyone’s protection, treats and vet meds which have been opened are not returnable, and returned blankets must be clean and free of debris. Underwear is not returnable or exchangeable.
Special Conditions
To protect all customers and ensure that every return or exchange is handled fairly, we may require a receipt or decline a return in these situations:
- Item was not purchased directly from Dover Saddlery. (It was purchased at a used tack sale or from a retailer or online seller other than Dover Saddlery.)
- Item is missing a label or has been defaced.
- No receipt and no valid identification in our stores.
- Item is wet, dirty, or contaminated, or until it has been cleaned. (For health and safety reasons, we cannot accept returns on used, defective, or poorly fitting blankets if they are UNWASHED.)
- Item has been lost, stolen, damaged, or misused.
- On rare occasions, based on the nature of prior transactions.
- Supplements have been opened or used.
- Multiple returns of the same item.
- Personalized items may not be returned unless defective.
