PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: Bates All-Purpose SC Saddle
Comfortable from your first ride, the Bates All-Purpose Square Cantle (SC) Saddle delivers security and balance. It features a low, square-shaped cantle and forward cut flaps are particularly suited for leisure riders who love to jump frequently. It also offers the option for riders to use rear Flexiblocs.
The wide and even channel through the length of the saddle provides generous clearance of your horse’s spine. The open seat creates a comfortable position for jumping, while a narrow twist allows close contact. The design lets you sit “into” the saddle rather than “on” the saddle.
The ergonomic stirrup bar enables the roller of the tongue of the stirrup leather buckle to be recessed into the bar and sit flush, which significantly reduces the bulk under your leg. The point and balance strap girthing system achieves greater strength and durability and improves the distribution of pull from the front and back of the saddle to increase comfort and saddle stability.
This all-purpose saddle is made of Heritage Leather, which upholds traditional practices in natural oil and wax tanning. It achieves a desirable rich patina characteristic of only the finest natural leathers. The high oil and wax content of this performance leather enhances rider grip with optimal suppleness and a fully natural surface.
This saddle is equipped with the CAIR® Cushion System and the EASY-CHANGE™ Fit Solution. CAIR® panels help maximize your horse’s comfort and freedom of movement. Lined with extremely soft neoprene, CAIR panels use air cushion technology to distribute weight and absorb shock, thereby making for a more comfortable ride for you and your horse. As your weight bears down on the saddle, air in the panels moves fluidly to hug your horse and distribute your weight evenly. The EASY-CHANGE Fit Solution, which incorporates the EASY-CHANGE™ Gullet System and the EASY-CHANGE™ Riser System, offers an unparalleled scope of adjustment. You can change the tree width to fit your horse’s current shape and muscling and make minor adjustments within the saddle panels for optimal balance and spine clearance.

All Bates® saddles feature the finest, hand selected European leather. You can be confident that the leather in a Bates® saddle is the best in the world, and if cared for, will offer many years of riding. Leather is a natural product and its life relies on maintaining a certain level of moisture. By following the steps below your saddle will perform for many years.
Prior to being ridden your new saddle should be liberally dressed with Bates® Leather Balsam. The balsam offers a surface barrier and protects against wear, water and sweat. Allow it to soak overnight for maximum absorption and protective sealing.
Regular cleaning of the saddle with glycerine saddle soap and a damp cloth or sponge will remove dirt, which can scratch the surface. Follow the cleaning with an application of Bates Leather Balsam or Bates Leather Cream to all areas of the saddle that are not suede. Apply a heavier application to high wear areas.
Keeping your Bates® saddle clean will help it achieve the traditional, rich patina of aged, worked leather and your saddle will bring you excellent years of service.

If something doesn’t fit you or your horse, return your original purchase within 30 days, and we’ll make it right with a refund, exchange, or replacement.
For manufacturer's defects, we'll extend the manufacturer's warranty to a maximum of 24 months, regardless of their individual policies. Manufacturer warranties longer than 24 months will be honored and supported by us as well up to the length of those warranties.
Exceptions: Safety items such as helmets and protective vests may only be returned within 30 days, with their original tags intact. Saddles and riding boots may be returned within 90 days, but are subject to a prorated refund based on usage. Used saddles may be returned for 30 days only. For everyone’s protection, treats and vet meds which have been opened are not returnable, and returned blankets must be clean and free of debris. Underwear is not returnable or exchangeable.
Special Conditions
To protect all customers and ensure that every return or exchange is handled fairly, we may require a receipt or decline a return in these situations:
- Item was not purchased directly from Dover Saddlery. (It was purchased at a used tack sale or from a retailer or online seller other than Dover Saddlery.)
- Item is missing a label or has been defaced.
- No receipt and no valid identification in our stores.
- Item is wet, dirty, or contaminated, or until it has been cleaned. (For health and safety reasons, we cannot accept returns on used, defective, or poorly fitting blankets if they are UNWASHED.)
- Item has been lost, stolen, damaged, or misused.
- On rare occasions, based on the nature of prior transactions.
- Supplements have been opened or used.
- Multiple returns of the same item.
- Personalized items may not be returned unless defective.
