The E.A. Mattes Gold Wool All-Purpose Correction Half Pad incorporates has two front and two rear pockets, each capable of holding up to five Mattes Poly-Flex® Shims to provide precise, incremental correction to saddle fit. Only 5mm thick, each shim can be layered or trimmed for desired results. Shims are easy to use and can be changed as needed as the horse develops. A set of Poly-Flex Shims is included with the pad, six front and six rear.
The shims, also called inserts, may be trimmed easily to meet your exact needs. With the assistance and recommendation of a qualified saddle fitter, shims can help adjust the fit of a saddle on an asymmetrical horse or help fit a saddle that may sit a little low or may be slightly too big. Shims or inserts will not help the fit of a saddle that is too tight, and in fact can make the tight fit worse.
E.A. Mattes Gold Collection pads incorporate all the key design features for which the Mattes Platinum Collection Sheepskin pads are known—anatomically correct toplines, Spine-Free® along the length of the spine for optimal clearance and the highest quality materials. These pads are made with high-loft, dense 1 1/4" long wool on fabric backing rather than on hide, specifically made for Mattes. E.A. Mattes Gold pads can be machine washed with MELP® and air dried. Remove shims prior to washing.
