Important Notes:
-You must measure your calf width over the type of pant you will ride in. A thicker or a thinner pant will change the way the half chap fits your calf.
-Try your half chaps on with the paddock boots you will ride in to ensure the chaps fit over them and are tall enough to accommodate the boots.
-When fitting your half chaps for the first time, they should feel very snug. Any elastic panel must be engaged so the leather or suede is encouraged to mold to the shape of your leg. The fit will ease over the first few days of use as the leather molds to your leg shape.
-If your half chaps are too loose at the start, they will become baggy and loose with wear.
Half chaps, when paired with paddock boots, offer the functionality of tall boots. They provide a level of support to a rider's lower legs and help prevent riding pant legs from twisting, wrinkling, rubbing or rising up, all of which can cause chafing. Use of half chaps and paddock boots for everyday riding allows a rider to forego investing in tall boots or to preserve tall boots for special occasions. Half chaps are available in brown, black and other color combinations, and they can be made of synthetic material, suede or leather. They're generally easier to fit than a tall boots, require almost no break-in period, are hardwearing with little care and are quite comfortable. Dover Saddlery offers half chaps for men, women and children in a variety of styles and at a range of price points.
For proper fit, Dover recommends that you take the time to determine your measurements before you order. Have another person measure your leg for the most accuracy. Half chaps should fit similarly to tall boots and should also come up into the back of your knee at first. When fitted properly, they will be difficult to zip at first, should be uncomfortably tight around the top, and will drop comfortably around your leg as they break in.

When referring to half chap sizing charts, it is important to keep in mind that all half chaps are measured at the widest part of the calf, but each brand measures height differently.

Try vacuuming the zipper with a brush and hose attachment to suck out any grit that may be clogging the teeth. For a very dirty zipper, use a soft bristled toothbrush to loosen and remove debris. After the zipper teeth are clean, your zipper should operate smoothly. A coat of Zipper Ease® Zipper Lubricant will help extend your zipper's useful life as well.
