The easiest way to remove snarls from your horse’s tail is to give your favorite brand of gel detangler time to work. Massage the product into your horse’s tail with your fingers, then let it sit on the hair for about 10 minutes. This is the perfect time to pick your horse’s feet and check his legs for bumps or bruises. When you go back to your horse’s tail, you’ll find that the detangler has made the hair slippery and manageable, and you can comb the knots out gently with your fingers. Finish with a comb or brush that has widely spaced teeth to add volume and shine.
