For proper fit, Dover recommends that you take the time to determine your measurements before you order. Have another person measure your leg for the most accuracy. Properly fitted tall boots will, at first, be uncomfortably tight around the top of the boot and should come up into the back of your knee. They should be difficult to pull on and off or zip up. As they break in, they will drop comfortably around your leg.

When referring to tall boot sizing charts, it is important to keep in mind that all tall boots are measured at the widest part of the calf, but each brand measures height differently.

How to Measure for Tall Boots:

1. Wear the clothing (breeches, tights, socks, etc.) you are most likley to wear with your boots.
2. Sit in a straight chair with feet flat on the floor and knees at a 90 degree angle.
3. Measure calf around the widest part, and measure height from the floor to back of the knee.
4. Add 1 1/2" - 2" to measured height to allow for drop as your boots break in.

For individual size charts and meaurements, please refer to the "Size Guide" link that appears on the product page.

I got a pair of full custom Savoy boots and was very pleased when I received them. They're nicely made and exactly what I was looking for; HOWEVER, upon my second wearing (first time was for about 1.5 hours around the house) the zipper (it was recommended I get zippers due to my very high instep) on the left boot split. My leg was more swollen than usual since it was pretty humid and hot out, BUT when you pay $1500 for a custom pair of boots and they're brand new, a zipper should not break. I will say their customer service is good and very accomodating, but because they take vacation from June 27-July 19th off, I can't send them in to be repaired until they're back from vacation! One disadvantage of a small, very old business. I was told that they occasionally will get a defective zipper and that is probably why it broke.

Although they were very dry when I got them, these boots have taken oil wonderfully and are now very supple and soft, like boots should be. They are actually pretty easy to get on and off. The design is very simple and classic, nothing to complain about, I love these boots.

Have been riding in Vogel for years and I still currently wear Vogel field boots. Love them. Leather is supple and forms to your leg and foot perfectly like a second skin. These are boots you can count on. Great looking and highly functional!
