I purchased these from a Dover retail store and loved them. They fit great, looked great and after two rides were beginning to break in really nicely. However, when I went to put them on for my third ride, the stitching on the bottom of the zipper had come out almost a full inch. AFTER TWO RIDES. They're going back. Not sure yet if I'll give them another chance.

I own these half chaps. I've been riding in them twice a week for about two months, so they're still fairly new. I like that Tredstep half chaps work well for those of us with hard to fit larger calves. Plus, these half chaps look really good. On the down side, the leather is not high quality. Even with conditioning, it has remained very stiff. More concerning is the fact that the leather has started pealing/chipping. By that, I mean that the shiny surface of the leather is chipping off, leaving tiny specs of dull leather. This was totally unexpected since these are some of the most expensive half chaps you can find. If they made these chaps out of a higher quality leather, I would highly recommend them. Due to the poor quality of the leather I would NOT recommend purchasing these.
For proper fit, Dover recommends that you take the time to determine your measurements before you order. Have another person measure your leg for the most accuracy. Half chaps should fit similarly to tall boots and should also come up into the back of your knee at first. When fitted properly, they will be difficult to zip at first, should be uncomfortably tight around the top, and will drop comfortably around your leg as they break in.
When referring to half chap sizing charts, it is important to keep in mind that all half chaps are measured at the widest part of the calf, but each brand measures height differently.
