This bit is amazing. I've been trying so many different bits for my horse and this is the one he has gone happiest in. I love that you can use it in 4 different ways, ranging from a simple loose-ring snaffle to a traditional gag. I ride with the cheekpieces attached in the upper loops and the reins in the lower loops, so there is a small amount of leverage. I will occasionally ride him in a medium shank pelham, which he goes like a top level dressage horse in, but it's just too fussy for every day schooling. I don't get the same precision from this bit, but he settles into it eagerly and still stops on a dime. The curve of the mouthpiece fits his jaws wonderfully (he's a Quarter Horse with a head that usually requires warmblood-sized tack, and I used the 5 3/4"). I don't think the mouthpiece needs to be any thicker, it's quite a mild bit and it is pretty thick already, any thicker and it would probably be cumbersome in the horse's mouth.

This bit is amazing, my horses love it! This bit is gentler than a 3-ring gag but gives me more brakes than a snaffle. Another benefit to the golden wings is excellent lateral control.

good bit with the "safeguard" for the lips. I wish the mouth piece was thicker and therefore more friendly.
