It's soft and the fabric lays nicely over their withers, back and hips. No rubbing. I've used it alone, and under another blanket. Either way, it's durable and keeps my 32 year old mare just warm and cozy enough. She's always comfortable in it. I like it so much, I'm going to buy 2 more - so her daughters each have one too. It truly is one of the best blankets I've ever owned. Thank you Dover !
