Having a very skinny ankle, I was tired of boots that gave me "cankles". When I first tried these on and walked around the store, I was in love. Not only did they fit nice and snug, the foot is so comfortable and flexible that I felt like I was wearing bedroom slippers! I have found with the more flexible sole, I have better grip in the stirrups since my foot and boots can kind of mold to the iron.
My boots will be 3 years old this year and besides a tiny bit of wear by the little gusset, they are in great shape. I did have a period where the zipper was a bit uncomfortable at the ankle (hence the 4-stars), but a cut-up tube stock padded the area just enough until that passed.

I have tried soo many different boots. I always have the hardest time keeping my leg on the horse when using tall boots. After intensive research I chose these. Aside from a mistake on sizing on Dovers shipping the boots are amazing. The leather is soo soft and I can actually grip and feel the horse under my leg. The only con i have on the boots is the zipper at the ankle. Without the right padding/ socks it tends to rub slightly. There is literally no break in period and after a few rides I noticed the zipper less and less. Great boots!!

I bought these boots after reading all the reviews on how great they are and sadly, they did not work out for me. The zipper, on the back of my ankle, hit in a weird way against my breeches so every step I took (trying to just walk in them) rubbed so badly that I had to take them off after a few minutes. I agree that the leather is high quality, soft and supple, and that the foot bed was great, but the zipper just was not right for me.
For proper fit, Dover recommends that you take the time to determine your measurements before you order. Have another person measure your leg for the most accuracy. Properly fitted tall boots will, at first, be uncomfortably tight around the top of the boot and should come up into the back of your knee. They should be difficult to pull on and off or zip up. As they break in, they will drop comfortably around your leg.
When referring to tall boot sizing charts, it is important to keep in mind that all tall boots are measured at the widest part of the calf, but each brand measures height differently.
How to Measure for Tall Boots:
1. Wear the clothing (breeches, tights, socks, etc.) you are most likley to wear with your boots.
2. Sit in a straight chair with feet flat on the floor and knees at a 90 degree angle.
3. Measure calf around the widest part, and measure height from the floor to back of the knee.
4. Add 1 1/2" - 2" to measured height to allow for drop as your boots break in.
