I am 5'8/150#/have indelicate calves and ordered the "full" cut which fits well. You would need really heavy calves to need the "wide". I found the chart on boot height/calf size for the various cuts and sizes to be an accurate fit. With the full calf they are a tad baggy in the ANKLES but the footbed is comfy, the leather quality is good, the leather broke in decently to bendable ankles in only about 6 rides....so given the "under $400.00" pricetag I think they are a good value.

The leather is good, the cut is nice for the most part. The fit is not great - I'm tall and slender but the regular calf is very snug and the regular height is so tall that they cut into the back of my knees. They're stretching slowly and will fall a bit, so I am keeping my fingers crossed that the comfort level will improve. The back of the heel bows out a lot where the spur rests are. I think it's because of downward pressure on the zipper from the rest of the boot. It looks a little weird when you're standing on the ground. When you've got your feet in the stirrups and your heels down, the bow is not that noticable.
For proper fit, Dover recommends that you take the time to determine your measurements before you order. Have another person measure your leg for the most accuracy. Properly fitted tall boots will, at first, be uncomfortably tight around the top of the boot and should come up into the back of your knee. They should be difficult to pull on and off or zip up. As they break in, they will drop comfortably around your leg.
When referring to tall boot sizing charts, it is important to keep in mind that all tall boots are measured at the widest part of the calf, but each brand measures height differently.
How to Measure for Tall Boots:
1. Wear the clothing (breeches, tights, socks, etc.) you are most likley to wear with your boots.
2. Sit in a straight chair with feet flat on the floor and knees at a 90 degree angle.
3. Measure calf around the widest part, and measure height from the floor to back of the knee.
4. Add 1 1/2" - 2" to measured height to allow for drop as your boots break in.
