I love the 1/2 chaps but I've had trouble with the zippers staying up since day 1. I thought it might improve with time, but I've had them more than a year now and while the chaps are still in great shape, the zippers still won't stay up.

I love these chaps. I've had mine for a year and a half of riding everyday, and they have held up well. When I first got them, they were tight arouond the anke, but have stretched out a little. The leather is very soft and great quality. The snaps broke off about 6 moths into getting them, but I got it fixed, so no more issues with zippers sliding down. Just now, they're getting some serious holes in the inside calf. I highly recommend!

I really like these 1/2 chaps for daily use and have worn out 2 pairs in the last 4 or 5 years - but they last 2x as long as other brands I've tried. They fit well and the ankle is wide enough for thick socks or winter paddock boots. I have not had trouble with the zippers. I wear through the sides and have them repaired by my shoe repair.
For proper fit, Dover recommends that you take the time to determine your measurements before you order. Have another person measure your leg for the most accuracy. Half chaps should fit similarly to tall boots and should also come up into the back of your knee at first. When fitted properly, they will be difficult to zip at first, should be uncomfortably tight around the top, and will drop comfortably around your leg as they break in.
When referring to half chap sizing charts, it is important to keep in mind that all half chaps are measured at the widest part of the calf, but each brand measures height differently.
