For proper fit, Dover recommends that you take the time to determine your measurements before you order. Have another person measure your leg for the most accuracy. Properly fitted tall boots will, at first, be uncomfortably tight around the top of the boot and should come up into the back of your knee. They should be difficult to pull on and off or zip up. As they break in, they will drop comfortably around your leg.
When referring to tall boot sizing charts, it is important to keep in mind that all tall boots are measured at the widest part of the calf, but each brand measures height differently.
How to Measure for Tall Boots:
1. Wear the clothing (breeches, tights, socks, etc.) you are most likley to wear with your boots.
2. Sit in a straight chair with feet flat on the floor and knees at a 90 degree angle.
3. Measure calf around the widest part, and measure height from the floor to back of the knee.
4. Add 1 1/2" - 2" to measured height to allow for drop as your boots break in.

I originally bought a pair of these boots and wore them comfortably for a total of 4 rides before the zipper breaking at the bottom. Had the zipper repaired however on the next ride the other ziper broke. I returned it for another pair, sold them on ebay and bought some pull on heritage which had no zipper problem but after months of torment never broke it and were absolutely horribly uncomfortable. Sold these too and left ariat field boots for good!! Bought elite grand prix's with the YKK zipper and am extremely satisfied! Ariat needs to stop being cheap on things that are important (aka a DECENT ziper!)

I have two pairs of Ariat boots - these and the insulated pair. I had a zipper break in the insulated pair after only six months of limited use (maybe 4 wears). Ariat repaired them and again the zipper has broken - on the first wear after returning from Ariat's repair company. Then these boots (the $400 challenge boots) also busted - IN THE SAME DAY! I will either buy these again in a fuller calf or go back to pull ons. Ariat needs to invest in better hardware for their boots - absolutely ridiculous to pay this much for boots only to have them fail repeatedly.

I bought my first pair of these in 04. Had those for a good year, the zipper broke. Got a new pair for free, 4 months, zipper broke. Another new pair, 8 months, zipper broke. Another new pair, 6 months, zipper broke. Ariat no longer gives out free ones, so they repaired them. 4 months, zipper breaks. I take good care of my boots, correct fit, zipper always breaks near bottom. They are just extremely CHEAP zippers. Amazingly comfortable boots, break in easily, almost break in too well. For nearly $400, I expect a my boots to LAST! I am now buying pull ons. I will never buy zip boots again and always caution people before buying these boots. I am very dissapointed with Ariat after my experience with these boots.
