Email Marketing Manager

Objective: The Email Marketing Manager is responsible for developing the email marketing strategy as well as improving the operational process of email execution and deployment while driving revenue to websites, stores and phone channels and building customer loyalty. This position will ensure accurate and timely reporting and present findings to management, working in close partnership with Merchandising, Creative/Production, Database Marketing, Social Media, Web Development and Search teams to ensure unified messaging to our customers.

Tasks and Duties include:

  • Develop strategy and manage operations of email marketing for company direct and retail efforts and other company owned entities.
  • Make recommendations to management of strategies, roadmaps, data requirements and operating plans for email channel.
  • Discover, recommend and implement new channels that compliment email marketing, such as Triggered Emails, Social Media and SMS marketing
  • Partner with business teams to develop marketing plans that support business objectives while protecting and growing the size and value of our customer email list.
  • Review competitive landscape and best practices, and make adjustments to plans and operational activities based upon identified information.
  • Develop and continually enhance communications with Merchandising to ensure the products and brand positions selected are optimal.

  • Achieve strategic and operational business goals for the direct and retail business units to deliver e-commerce revenue, increase customer loyalty, and drive in store traffic.
  • Accountable for orders, revenue, cost, and profit/loss driven by email marketing through all channels, as well as new email address collection and email file maintenance, as this is a company asset.
  • Develop budget and forecasts for email marketing and accountable for delivering against business goals and objectives.
  • Drive email strategy with content, frequency, and messaging to deliver on ROI targets. Utilize list segmentation, personalization, and content optimization to increase relevance and return on investment.

  • Maintain daily operations of the email program including; email calendars, coordination with other marketing teams on key themes and promotions; execution and deployment of email campaigns; measurement and analysis of key business metrics; and communication of results to management.
  • Develop and oversee email deployment process, and manage relationships with key internal departments including Merchandising, Creative, Production, and 3rd party ESP vendors.
  • Infuse automation into email process including list pulls, segmentation, triggered emails, A/B testing, variable content and delivery timing.
  • Improve the QA process to ensure; effective quality controls, compatibility with web browsers, links are working properly, imagery is correct, subject lines are correct, and list segments are functioning properly.
  • Promote capture of email addresses throughout the sites and all order channels; maintain opt-out file and co-ordinate email file maintenance efforts;
  • Use data to continuously test, measure and optimize email performance.
  • Plan and launch customer life cycle campaigns and seasonal promotions.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with key internal and external contacts.
  • Work closely with product, database and ecommerce teams to develop and execute on roadmap of functional and technological email marketing capability enhancements.
  • Interact with peers in management / customers / vendors to interpret information and improve cross-functional processes and programs.
  • Ensure the ongoing training and development of interns and team members. Develop and mentor staff through on-boarding, open communication, training and development opportunities. Build and maintain associate morale and motivation.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Desired:
  • 4+ years of experience designing and deploying emails and reporting on results
  • Proven understanding of retail merchandising and the ability to translate merchandising efforts into meaningful email campaigns
  • 1 year of experience managing, building and testing behaviorally triggered email programs and integrated cross-channel marketing.
  • 1 year of hands on experience with Silverpop ESP
  • 1 year of experience using SQL or similar database programs
  • Experience setting up API integrations
  • Ability to manage internal and external stakeholders, articulating program goals, while trouble shooting problems and conflict resolution.
  • Strong ability to identify business issues, formulate plans to resolve these issues, and effectively communicate the results to senior management.
  • Possess intellectual curiosity and self motivation to initiate activity to achieve assigned goals
  • Display excellent time management, and an ability to think and plan well ahead
  • Experience in split testing; enjoy pushing the boundaries by running tests, analyzing results and recommending improvements
  • Comfortable managing internal communications and outside vendor relationships
  • Creativity in developing and executing ways to reach online audiences
  • Clear understanding of, and hands on experience with, relational databases
  • Strong project management experience
  • BS in Marketing or related field preferred
  • Equestrian experience desired but not required
